Avian de Keizer Mendoza (he/him)

Born and raised in western Washington, Avian is an interdisciplinary visual artist studying as a degree candidate at The Evergreen State College.

Avian’s artistic practice involves primarily working with analog still and moving images. However, he uses many mediums, including but not limited to collage, all forms of film photography, digital photography, cyanotypes, photograms, phytography, and watergrams.

His current artistic research focuses on themes of gender, identity, memory, repair, queer ecology, and queer artistic relationships. He is particularly interested in multiple exposures, blur, and reflections as ways of expressing these ideas. He seeks to challenge and dismantle traditional ideas around portraiture and modeling through his photography of his own queer and transgender community.
